The Black Watch Drill Team is the ROTC Varsity Armed Drill Team of  Winston Churchill High School in San Antonio, Texas. The Black Watch Drill Team engraved out a national reputation for itself.  Warmly known to many as National Champion Drill Team, Black Watch is one of America’s true icons, a shining star in a world of solidarity. This Varsity Drill Team consists of 13 to 17 male cadets that are trained extensively in armed drilling. In addition, this skilled team is known nationally through their numerous first place titles at both local and national drill competitions. For many years, Black Watch enjoyed an intense and spirited rivalry with the America’s finest drill teams, particularly San Antonio powerhouses. Black Watch drill exhibitions combined spectacular and difficult rifle maneuvers, such as spins “ doubles, triples, and even quads” and throws, with intricate drill styles all performed with precise military bearing, as well as a high level of perfection.


From drill competitions to school functions, from inaugural ceremonies to parades, from community services to public demonstrations, The Black Watch Drill Team embodies the impact of The Charger Battalion’s mission on cadets; a given proof that anything and everything is possible through hard work and persistence. The performances given by Black Watch are not only impressive and awe-inspiring, they are living proof that The Charger Battalion works. The legacy of Black Watch is true and actual; not imaginary, alleged, or ideal. It is perchance a legacy existing objectively in the world regardless of subjectivity or controversy. The words National Champion are more than just a saying or even a title to the men of Black Watch, it is a way of life and a chance to prove more than a year of practice to others, it shows the heart of a will to win team. Black Watch performance is the one of few performances at Nationals and various meets that cadets await with heated anticipation, year after year. For others, Black Watch performance is usually the first time they fully understand the importance and the power of discipline, perfection, dedication, and pride.
