One can distinguish Mike Moad as a very unique commander of Black Watch. He commanded Black Watch for two years (1999-2001). Under his leadership, the hardworking Black Watch won nationals in 2000, and brought home the national runner-up title the following year. People are still trying to stumble on why Black Watch did not win that year. Mike made a simple statement explaining the way his team felt that year saying: “ What was laid in our way was a concrete wall that we saw right through, and our greatest fear was that we would miss something standing in our way, and sadly enough, it was our perfection that kept us from winning nationals one last time”. Mike graduated from Winston Churchill with honors in 2001, and was also the Battalion Commander of the Charger Battalion. During the 2001 National High School Drill Team Championships, Mike was the 1st cadet from Churchill to receive the praiseworthy Jean Weil Scholarship Award. The scholarship foundation begun in 2000, and Mike was the first ever to receive this illustrious award. Additionally, Mike is noted as one of the best commanders Black Watch has ever had. His three years on the team made a statement on the drill floor not only with the team, but also throughout individual events. All through his three years attending Nationals, he competed in tandem drill all three years, represented Black Watch for solo in 2000, and won the Jean Weil scholarship in 2001. He is currently pursuing his Army career at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
