| May 1999 was when John Akeroyd established himself a gleaming name in the Drill World. This was due to his exhilarating performance of his 99 smash solo. John detonated the drill explosion, paving the way for other drillers and drill teams. You cannot in fact utter about The Black Watch Drill Team without talking about John Akeroyd. John graduated from Winston Churchill in 1999 as the Battalion Commander of the Charger Battalion. He is nationally noted for his National Champion title in the Individual Drill category, as well as his recital performance as the commander of the Cameron Highlander Color Guard. He is prosperous of the attracting notice as being unusual and extraordinary in Drill. During the 1999 National high School Drill team Championships, John amazed both judges and attendees with his natural endowment and ability of conducting a superior drill quality that was not seen in previous years. His talent was so implausible as to an illicit disbelief. He gave an incredible explanation of the results of hard work and dedication. Amazingly, John started drilling when he was in 8th grade. His brother, Mike Akeroyd, who is also a former member of Black Watch, critiqued him and guided him through the driller he was. His first experience in the individual drill category was in the year 1997, in which he proudly brought home the National Champion title for tandem drill. In 1998, John brought home the national runner up title for Individual Drill, and then finally achieved the title during his senior year in 1999. John will graduate from West Point in May 2003. |
