| Talking about legends making dreams come true. Greg Mikesell was the first commander of Black Watch who really looked at the team as a force within itself. To Greg, Black Watch was an art form. He is the one who came up with the basic routine you see today. Earlier than that, Black Watch was the laughing stock at most drill meets. The team was getting better, but not the difficulty and advancement from 90-91 and 91-92. From that point on, it was like another world. As the son of the Senior Army Instructor at the time, Greg was not only the commander of Black Watch, but was also on the physical fitness team, and the orienteering team. He finished his ROTC career by winning a full ROTC Scholarship and served as the XO his final year at Churchill. In the two years that Greg II was commander (90-91,91-92), the Black Watch lost only twice, but won District both years. Their record during his command was 18 wins, one second and one third. ” From that point on, it was dreamlike. I had a succession of great commanders who added just a little each year. His season was a real pleasure to coach” said Major Mikesell. As a father of one endearing son, Greg is currently the president of Definitive Custom Homes at San Antonio. |
